Only a small portion of it is hot to touch where the heat comes out but the rest of it was cool to the touch.  The part that gets hot is right above the glass above the buttons where the vent is about 2 feet off the ground in front.

Yes there are buttons on the front of the unit above the glass.

Does the MDF contain any formaldehyde? I&#39;m concerned about off gassing.

Picked up at store, employees loaded into suv. One big box with components in 3 separate boxes. Packed very well, all hardware and parts were there. Only problem was a small chip on corner of middle board. Didn't need replaced because it included marker that matches color of unit. It took my husband about 4 hours to get it assembled.  Ours is grey in color and we love it.

Great value, sturdy and nicely made.

A wonderful addition to any living room. It took my son and I about 5.5 hours of non-rushing work to put it together. All the parts were present, no breakage or major scratches. I had it shipped site-to-store for easy pick up. PLEASE bring a large bed truck or a minivan (with 2nd and 3rd rows of seats down) because the package is huge! Once we unloaded the box from the car, we opened it and brought in the 3 enclosed boxes separately without ANY hassle or problem. There is a defect in my unit though -- they "forgot" to drill in a marked hole for the door handle. Other than that, once we put the TV stand together, everything is functioning properly and to our satisfaction. We had our TV wall-mounted later on, but it looks equally wonderful with or without the TV. All in all, my family and I are very satisfied with the product, and we surely would recommend it to anyone.

Cozy and beautiful TV stand

Beautiful! Looked nice in the picture but even better in person! Husband and I were fascinated by it. Heater works great !!!!!

Beautiful fireplace

Wanted to say that you cannot go wrong for the money with this beautiful fireplace. It was shipped undamaged with all the pieces included. The fireplace took some time to put together since you have to pay attention to details with all of the steps. I have include a picture for all to see. I highly recommend this piece as it is made of quality material and is made very well.

Awesome Fireplace!

Though it took about 4 hours to put together... I love it!!!  ITS VERY STURDY....the grey finish was just as the picture looks... very easy to use! And it heats up the living room without having to cut on the heater for the whole house.

Perfection

The Whalen  Barston Media Fireplace came right on schedule. The main box was very heavy, if you pull the three boxes out from inside, it is much easier than carrying the whole thing. The wood pieces were all in good condition, no scratches or breaks. It took my husband and I about 1 hour to put together. The directions were easy to follow and the whole piece was easy to put together. 
I love that this fireplace comes with a remote, very convenient, and it heats my living room well. The cabinets are big enough to fit our movies and wii games. All in all, this piece works for my family's needs.

Love my fireplace!

We had been looking for a tall tv stand when my husband came across this. We ordered it and it arrived quickly. Took a couple of hours to put together, but it was easy to do so. The first put together item my husband and I put together without an argument or even a raised voice. Looks fantastic and is quite heavy.

Great purchase

This is a great product. Assembly was fairly easy. Pick up at Walmart was a breeze. It is very heavy especially up three flight of stairs. The doors were a little hard to put on as we had to remove the back put the door and and then put the back on.
