This product's specs page on Apple's website states that it is capable "up to" the 4K streaming. Still uses the standard HDMI port for connection to non 4K sets. "Requires 4K and HDR TV for 4K and HDR streaming" but also streams "H.264/HEVC SDR video up to 2160p, 60 fps, Main/Main 10 profile

Most people won’t understand this, but every signal on the Apple TV 4K is upscaled digitally to 4K hdr or Dolby Vision. It upscales better than any device on the market. No need to pay for Netflix in 4K as the Apple TV does the work for you. Every thing looks better while watching on the Apple TV, especially if your tv supports 4K Hdr or Dolby Vision. 5 stars for that alone. Software works well, better than chrome cast, Roku and android tv. Has some glitches. Picture quality trumps all, in my opinion.

Best Streaming Box for 4K HDR and Dolby Vision

I’m totally in love with my Apple TV.  It is like having a giant iPhone.  I can see my pictures and the hear my music.  The picture quality is great.  Being able to use all the apps just like my phone is a plus.

The Apps and voice control remote are wonderful! Having this saved us from calling Spectrum Cable to move our cable to another side of a large room - $150.00 ouch! Now we can watch cable on the Spectrum App. You won’t even realize how great it is until you’ve played with it for a few days :)

A must have!

Like anything Apple, it’s plug and play. You can hold your iPhone nearby and it signs you in to all your accounts so there’s almost no work to do once you’re in. Streaming is super fast with no buffering. The new TV was supposed to stream 4K but had a hard time. This is the only way to go.

If you have Apple anything, this is the only way

I decided to upgrade my Apple TV to this 5th generation model, and am very happy with it; the remote control touch pad takes some getting used to, but is excellent otherwise (my older Apple TV remote works with this model as well).... Navigating through the menu is a breeze.... Picture quality on my home theater screen is amazing!! And Walmart's price beat all the other online stores I frequent.... Very happy!!  :-)

I had purchased the (2) Apple TV 4Ks for my elderly mother as she had an older version Apple TV and wanted to update so that she could download the new available apps. So I ordered these (2) Apple TV 4Ks for her and had them setup in no time. She said that she isnt having issues using them at all and enjoys her favorite shows on Netflix, Amazon Video, HBOMax, etc.  The (2) Apple TVs arrived very fast and as promised.

The remote control is too sensitive to the touch.  Its difficult to scroll through various options because of this sensitivity. One winds up skipping all over the place. All the options have to be memorized rather than having well marked buttons.

Bought this to stream downloaded movies from my IPad to TV at my grand daughters where WiFi is poor and unable to stream over internet without lots of buffering. Was successful at my house where I have strong WiFi but not at grand daughters. Suspect streaming downloads is not entirely indecent. Works fine to not stream and watch on IPad.

Some issues found

Its a fine medium for streaming apps but thats pretty much it. I dont see why it should cost $170. Plus the remote can be non responsive and laggy at times. And god forbid you spill something on it. Its $60 to replace it. Also has a weird relationship with my homepods. Disconnects all the time and frustrates me, and some apps, like sling, wont even support the homepod, i only get sound from my tv speaker

Its just way to overpriced. Some issues

Briefly, I purchased the 4K unit to replace Apple TV II.  My wife and daughter wanted Discovery Plus and this was one way to get it.  I am an Apple guy, so figured I'd upgrade.  Walmart had best price.  The unit is nice size, same as II, and once you get it setup works great.  However, no instructions included, you have to get it online, but to be fair, out of box setup, once unit fires up is relatively easy.  The biggest problem is the included remote, which has no instructions, and is not intuitive to use, and it's touch pad is way to sensitive which causes selection errors.  Just awful.  After I got set up done, I programmed my Harmony 650 remote to control it, and all is well.  Apple is getting just like BMW and Mercedes, everything is totally over engineered.
