It&#39;s canvas. There are screws at the ends of each carrier rod which must be removed, but it shouldn&#39;t take more than 5-10 minutes with a screwdriver and stepstool to remove it for winter.

I loved this so much, I purchased another one a couple years later!

Loved the first one so much, I bought a second one

So this isn't a true black, it's a black/brown color. It also did come with a few dents, which is disappointing. But still overall good product for the money. It works perfect for my space.

You will need two people at least to put together.

Great price/value for a backyard oasis

It's a nice small pergola.  I've purchased 2 of these. However the directions are terrible. The actual dimensions of the pergola do not match up with the directions.  Had to put the pergola together then set it down to have accurate footings. I live in the High Dessert of AZ and winds and dust devils are frequent. We cut side holes in the legs in order to pour cement to secure the pergola. Looks great and for a smaller pergola it's not bad but not as hefty as larger ones. Still, if you place your pergola in an area where winds can be strong, I suggest you use additional methods to secure it to the ground.  It is so nice to have extra shade for smaller areas. Trees are great but we keep them away from the house so the roots don't disrupt the foundation. A pergola is a great option and you don't have to water it!  We call our property "The Pergola House" we have several pergolas around our front and back patios. We live on 2 acres so we have several set up here and there.  They look great, provide needed shade, and more usable areas to sit, socialize, and enjoy a drink while looking out at the view. We decided to add corrugated asphalt roofing panels to the roof of the pergola. The shade provided  is very nice and for most uses would be more than sufficient, but with the very hot summers in AZ we wanted a denser shade. The panels are inexpensive and easy to screw on. So my attached photo will look a different from the advertised photo. Either way, if you have a smaller area and need some shade, the quality for the price is very good.

Nice smaller pergola but directions are crappy.

The item came with 3 of the legs dented and scratched.  Very disappointed in the damaged product I paid full price for. The instructions were also not very helpful.

Damaged.

Parts came damaged and I don't believe that it happened during shipment because too many people have the same complaint. We had to hammer the dented bar so the bar tip would fit. The instructions are horrible. It took 3 people to put it together and once we got to the end we noticed we had the back connector bar on wrong so now we have to take one side apart.

You get what you pay for!

Here are the good things worth mentioning: 
1. In theory it's a beautiful pergola for this price point and easy to assemble. 
2. If it wasn't defective, I would have given it 5stars. 
The bad:
1. It arrived defective, specifically it was missing 3 crucial shade attachment pieces. Without those 3 pieces, we cannot use the shade which really defeats the one of the main purposes of the pergola. 
2. Called customer service immediately and was told they would ship out the missing pieces. It's beyond the 7-10 business days and still nothing. I'll update if it actually arrives.

Arrived defective

The item looked good.. but unfortunately one of the legs is damaged badly.. I saw many posted the similar comments.. its not the damage while shopping.. as the paint or anything has not gone.. but the leg has severe damage.. unable to reach to the concern person as well to see if they can send across the particular leg as well

Arrived with damage

Run away from this! Packaged horrible, scratched and dented pieces. Directions were horrible and main bar had screw holes on one side and two on opposite side. They were all supposed to be on re same side. Putting together was a nightmare. My husband had to drill hole on correct side and go to hardware store to purchase a bolt in order to assemble. Everything about this was a hot mess!

NEVER AGAIN WILL I PURCHASE BHAG ITEM!

It came damaged 2 of the posts had big dents in the bottom of them which I was able to hammer out myself, there wasn't enough screws to put it together and the canopy and the protective cover was too big for it. I am trying to work with customer service trying to get this resolved.

Awful! Directions were in another language and there were missing holes that needed to be drilled and their is a defect with one of the brackets that holds the top on. So disappointed and dissatisfied with this item!
