No, this tent is not free-standing. It comes with stakes and poles for support.

Wanderlust, yes the tent is free-standing. It does not require stakes in order to stand up. The stakes are included with the tent because we always recommend that you full stake down any tent you use, including using the guylines. First, this will make the tent floor taut, which makes for a more enjoyable time in the tent. Second, it secures the tent to the ground in case of wind. The last thing you want is for your tent to blow away!

NO. If you can not stake this tent you will need to have an extra pole ( or use your hiking poles) to span between the two end poles

This is not free standing. It is a tunnel-type tent and needs to be staked out to stand up. Great quality tent at this price though. Comes with aluminum poles no less!

It is not free-standing. It's two perpendicular poles, nothing to hold it up without stakes. So if your stakes come out, it will fold in on you while sleeping. Didn't work great in sandy areas. Had a similar tent for 9 years.

Received mine this morning, much, much better quality than expected. I should get many years out of it!! Did a test setup, took under 10 Min!! Highly recommend, super value for the money, there's 1 person backpacking tents for three times the amount this costs and their quality is nowhere near the quality of this tent!!

Only downside is it gets a bit stuffy in warm weather, otherwise it's light as heck and does the job, rainfly will keep you dry, enough space to sit up if you need to but otherwise a very cozy sleeping space

Dang good tent for backpacking

It was my first campout and it was great easy to assemble and to put away in my backpack it was awesome can't get any better lightweight small compact.  I have made one of the smartest choices in buying this item.

Light weight, plenty of room and easy to set up. Quality seems pretty good especially for the price.

Nice tent

Bought one for my friend and I on a recent three day backpacking trip. Woke up to pouring rain one day, but tent floor was dry even without a tarp (tried to show this in the pic). We aren't huge campers and didn't want to spend a lot of money on tents we wouldn't use that often. But this one worked really great. Only 3 pounds so not excessively heavy, and easy to set up. Only negatives I'd say were the fact that it's not free standing (it has to be staked to stand), and the stakes aren't very heavy duty. Stepping on them to get them deeper into the ground did bend them a bit. But for the low price of this tent and the ease of getting stronger stakes if we want them, I highly recommend.

Great tent, even in the rain

Very lightweight.  Easy set up.  Easy to repack.  Much larger than I thought it was going to be.   I'm 5'2" and I'm able to fit in the tent with my 55lt pack.

Pleasantly surprised

The tent only took a few min to set up and everything looks to be nice and sturdy and should last a while. I am 6'1" and 230 lbs and it fits me just fine and still has room for my pack and all my backpacking gear.

works great

I bought this tent for a solo backpacking trip in northern MN.  It definitely sleeps only one, with room at the head area for your stuff.  It was an excellent purchase, better than expected.  The poles practically put themselves together, kept all bugs (including the many mosquitos) out.  It rained the first night of the trip and I stayed completely dry.  Love how the netting keeps all bugs out, and if it'll be a dry/warm  night, you can keep the rain fly off and watch the stars ( the whole top is netting if rain fly is off).  Held up in high winds.  I was even able to easily get it back into the original carrying bag each day I moved on, something that can be hard to do.  It was perfect.  Highly recommend.

Great tent, easy to set up

Used it this weekend. Very nice set up. My 10 year old daughter and I actually had to squeeze in together. It was tight, but worked. I treated the fabric with water guard and bug repellent. That worked well. Muy daughter wants one for herself because she likes the open view. The only draw back for me was, since it is extremely humid in TN, leaving the rain guard of was not a good idea, but if you left it on you feel like your in an oven. So I ended up taking it off and dealing with the moisture. Next time I will string a tarp up over the tent to keep it open but keep the moisture off the net.  We will see how it goes. But idea a great tent. My husband is thinking of getting him one now.

Great tent

I purchased this tent for a car camping weekend.  This was my first time camping and first time putting up a tent.  It was relatively easy to setup and I had more than enough space for myself (and a dog in the future).  I didn't want the worry of lugging and setting up a large, traditional tent.  I was protected from the little rain that did fall, but I will be purchasing a ground cover just in case.  Plus it's budget-friendly.  Many of the 1-person tents online are expensive, but this fit the budget.  Money well spent in my opinion.  I would like to take this tent backpacking and I will update my experience then.
