The carton dimensions are correct. There are two pieces and each fold in half, i.e. quarters! The "couch" back remains divided for separate adjusting positions, the "couch" seat, which is divided before assembly, is secured, when assembled, by the mounting brackets for the middle support legs. Not only that....the futon has a compartment within the bottom frame which holds the legs and hardware! Very well designed and assembles very secure. I even moved this futon by returning it to its shipping size rather than leaving it completely assembled.

In comes folded and packaged in a box. The futon can fold crosswise down the center into a tight 44.5" package. Check it out this way...you split 71" and you get about 35". Add the packaging meterial that helps protect it during shipping and you get the rest of you inches that adds to 44.5"

I was surprised when it arrived in such a small box. It is actually folded in half. There is a split in the middle and that is how they are able to have it in a smaller box.

I just measured the box that it came in, and it is in deed 44 inchs. long , and 3 ft. wide. It's possible, because of the way it folds down. I hope that helps you.

The futon is folded back down onto the seat part and then folded in half. I could not imigine how the futon was in the small box. It was. It is thin. The legs and screws are in a pouch underneath.

It has three positions: The straight back, the semi-reclining, and the bed. It is split so that either person can choose which position to have their side on. Of course you don't have to change it from th straight back but the couch is "split" down the middle. Hope that this makes sense/helps.

no bed is short and the fold would make for sore back for daily sleeper

we cant feel the springs but we use it for watching tv, seems very firm though. The only issue I can think of might be the split in the middle. When it is in the upright position it looks like 2 parts put together and that split might be an issue.

Only if you want to punish your daughterfor something. Maybe she should consider a daybed with a REAL mattress. This thing is horrible.

I don't recommend for sleeping they are very hard to sleep
