Update: So I bought the saw in Sep 2022, used it quite a bit and was quite pleased with the performance. Then i left it in my shed for a few months until I needed it again. Now, in July, 2023, I have a need but the battery is dead. No big deal, but it won't charge no matter what I do. Called their support number and gave them Amazon information from my order history (one of the best parts of Amazon, no sales slips to store or credit card info to look up, just go to Amazon and get the info, I love it). I then ran a couple of tests for the tech and he said he'd send a new one in 7-10 days. That was Aug 1. It arrived Aug 2, I charged it overnight and Aug 3 I cut an 8" tree and trimmed a few limbs in other areas. That's pretty good service in my book. I just hope the new battery lasts a long time.
Another realization: my gas saw was 14 inches; I've realized in the year or so I've owned the Greenworks, that 12 inches works fine for my purposes. I still have the 14, but haven't used it once, and probably never will.
The Greenworks works fine, and does a good quick job. I don't notice a significant difference between the gas and this one as far as time taken or quality of cuts. The battery lasts about two hours, which is about as much as I can do at one time anyway. In fact, it's never run out on me because I tucker out before the battery.
I'd highly recommend this product; I think you'll be glad you got it. All of that being said, there are two complaints I have. Like any chain saw, you have to make sure to use bar/chain oil. The problem is that the indicator to show you how much oil remains in oil compartment is not transparent; it's opaque. I've held it up in the sun, I've look at it in the shade, I've shined a flashlight on it to see how much oil I have left. You just can't tell. (You'd think some young, enterprising engineer or technician in the Greenworks family would have noticed this "emperor wearing no clothes" situation and said, "Ah, excuse me, but will the customer be able to actually see how much oil he/she has left?" Bottom line on this is that I use the saw for 20 or 25 minutes, and then I add fresh oil. By that time, the oil seems to have depleted itself. I 'd guess that in two hours of work, you'd probably have to add oil about five times. My second complaint is that while the battery snaps in place easily, it's a bear to get off. I sit in a garden chair with the unit ton the ground in front of me. I wrap both feet around its sides, and with BOTH hands pulling on the release lever, manage to pull off the battery. That's the only way I've been able to get it off.
If it weren't for those two complaints, I'd definitely give this saw five stars. Buy it...you'll be glad you did.
The battery life is decent, much better than i expected from a battery powered saw. It's good enough that I'm considering getting the greenworx leaf blower (tool only) and slowly getting into this product line.
The plastic on it has held up well. I like the tensioner mechanism, pretty easy to handle.
The only thing about it that I don't really like is the grip, but I'm spoiled from having so many other saws that had really good handling like stihls and huskvs, so maybe that doesn't count lol
