GOOD LOOKING PLANTER FOR PATIO
4 Stars
GOOD LOOKING PLANTER FOR PATIO
I just received this planter, and was able to put it together and place the herbs in it before my husband got home from the Grocery store. So believe me, it was very easy to assemble. It looks great also, so much so, that I will probably order another one for the other side of our wall so that it all looks balanced. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars, is because I think it could have been better designed to make it more versatile. It appears that the company's plan was to design a planter that the owner would put dirt in and plant their flowers or herbs, but that's not what we wanted to do with it. First of all, it doesn't have wheels, so once it was planted with dirt, we'd never be able to move it. If I bought wheels and attached them, then the manufacturer said it would void the warranty. So we had no interest in doing any of that. Our plan was to put the potted herbs we are growing into the raised planter, and leave them in the pots. We found that leaving them on the ground invited unwanted pests, and they usually died, and leaving them on our patio table was unsightly. I wanted something that looked attractive and matched our patio furniture in color. This planter, while attractive, is very deep, too deep for my potted plants, so I had to devise a way to raise the platform and make it stable. I didn't feel like going to the store to buy some styrofoam, so I used what we had, several ceramic pots that happened to be all the same height. We placed them at the bottom, and then flipped the platform over, because it has a lot of ridges on the underneath side that prevent it from laying flat on the upside down pots below. The result for us was acceptable, but I do think the company could have designed the planter to make the platform adjustable. They include two plastic bars that have attachment grooves to place inside the planter (not sure why they thought these were necessary), but if there were more grooves and the bars were metal (the plastic ones are to flexible to hold up a platform) that telescoped to account for the slope of the planter itself, it would be great. I could have just put the bars in, where I wanted, place the platform on top, and then put my pots in. The problem I ran into the way I have it, is the actual base of the planter is full of plastic compartments (we plan on drilling holes in those compartments for drainage, as we see trouble ahead with them collecting water a breeding ground for mosquitoes) and two molded plastic long bars that run lengthwise and a lot of little compartments, and it was difficult to balance the pots so that they would be stable enough to support the platform. But it's okay for now. I took some pictures.I'm probably one of only a few people that would want to use it in this fashion, so perhaps my comments are irrelevant, but that's why I only gave it 4 stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars FABULOUS! Nicely made! Just what I need to replace my old wooden containers
Reviewed in the United States on May 27, 2016
This is a FABULOUS planter. Super easy to put together - you just need a Phillips screwdriver to screw in the 4 legs.
It has a tray that separates the water area from the soil and it has a little water gauge to monitor when there is enough or too much water in the basin. It also has a spigot so you can release the extra water. The good thing is that the released water, with all of the soil nutrients, can be used to water the other plants I have.

As far as the amount of soil needed - I bought two 2 cubic ft bags of organic potting soil and I used about 1.5 - 1 3/4 of the bags. I didn't tamp down the soil too solidly, so if you do, you might need a bit more of the soil.

I am tired of replacing the wooden containers because they end up disintegrating and breaking apart. So, I am trying this.
I LOVE that it is raised.

Some reviews say the legs are not stable. I am not having that experience. Do try to get it in the position you want it BEFORE putting in the soil, unless you only want to move it a few inches - or have some REALLY strong people to move it to a new location.

I did call the company to ask whether I needed to line it out of concern that the soil would drain into the water reservoir. They told me that I did not need to line it, as they addressed that in the design. We will see!

So far, very pleased! Time will tell!

I am going to order a few more and get rid of all of the wooden planter boxes I have!

I just planted a bunch of lettuce seeds, so we'll see how it goes.
Nice design. SIMPLE assembly. It's very nice looking

UPDATE 9/1/2017 - I am still in love with this planter box, so much so, I bought two more, have shown it to several friends and they each bought one or two.

The pictures show Japanese eggplant, Persian cucumbers, lettuce - lots of lettuce. It's so nice to receive a product that really works., is effortless. Having it hooked up to a drip system makes it perfect.

UPDATE 7/24/2020 - I am STILL in love with this planter box. I have 3 of them. They have held up well, produce amazing vegetables and fruit. I love that the water goes into a reservoir that I can reuse - I call it "tea" - it looks like tea - it's water and the nutrients from the soil - my vegetables are more robust and I attribute some of that to reusing the tea water. The price appears to have gone up a bit since I purchased it, but after 3 years of owning them, there is absolutely no wear and tear on them. They remain sturdy. I LOVE THEM!

5.0 out of 5 stars I’m madly in love!
Reviewed in the United States on June 12, 2018
I have only had these a few weeks but I’m already head over heels in love. A garden with no more bending over or getting dirty and even better, I don’t have to worry about getting water on my new deck! Here is what I think thus far so you can make an informed decision:

1. These were so easy to put together. Screw in the four legs and boom done. And the material is very light so that made it even easier.
2. A lot of reviews complain of damage upon arrival but I ordered three at the same time and they were all in perfect shape.
3. When I ordered these they were about 20 bucks less than the big box store price but now I see they are about the same.
4. I was a bit irritated that when I ordered these they were noted to ship in 2 to 4 weeks. I ordered them April 20th and hoped it wouldn’t be the full 4 weeks. It actually came two days past the 4 weeks. No idea why it was late. Now I see they are two day shipping so I wish they had them in stock like that before growing season started.
5. My shipments all indicated these were made in Israel. I knew it stated this company was in several countries but I wasn’t sure which.
6. I used 2 large bags of potting mix from HD in each of these. Probably could have used a half bag more in each but there’s always next year.
7. They’re very heavy once full obviously, so if there was one feature I wish it had that it doesn’t, it would be wheels. I used to have each of my garden plants in separate pots which made it easy to move them if they were getting shaded by another plant or as the sun changed position throughout summer. This is not an option with these based on their weight.
8. These are very attractive. I have gotten compliments on them from every person that has come over in the last few weeks.
9. I feel pretty confident these will last for years. They’re a hard plastic so they won’t just break down. The only problem would be if a leg broke if you were trying to move these or something.
10. Removing water from the bottom reservoir is easy. It does not come gushing out or anything so I can catch it in my watering can for reuse. The valve moves easily and I can do this all by myself without issues. It does take a long time to drain though, even with very little water inside.

I am definitely purchasing more of these in the future and would highly recommend them to others.

5.0 out of 5 stars it's not only perfect, it's beyond perfect.
Reviewed in the United States on August 17, 2020
The planter turned out a little bit bigger than I thought (my mistake, description is very accurate) and this mistake I made when calculating the layout couldn't make me happier. It turned out that the final result was MUCH BETTER than the original plan.
The planter itself is awesome, super sturdy, it doesn't create that annoying "belly" after filled with soil because the walls are very sturdy. The product is beautifully designed and assembly is a breeze. Only 4 screws (one on each leg) and you're good to go. Two stabilizing bars clip on the top and are completely hidden after planted.

I've put only three herb plants and now I regret. I'll have to redo everything because only later I realized I have room more than enough for twice that.

The self watering feature is brilliant, specially during the summer in Southern California.

Plants loved their new home, please ignore the parsley in the picture because today I forgot to stretch the sun screen and the poor thing was almost baked to death by our 100+ degrees sun.

I love when a product exceeds my expectations, Keter is known for making great products but this time they definitely ran the extra mile to make a planter that is beyond perfect.

UPDATE ON OCT 1ST 2021:

It still looks like brand new even under the California sun. Excellent quality, I'm still in love with it. Perfection really exists.
