I bet there are standard for 12$ but I am not sure. I would buy them if there are extended, I buy in a minute.

The 557-minute total runtime and lack of any mention otherwise means the standard theatrical cut.

It appears to be the theatrical (standard) version based on the run time of 557 minutes (a little over 9 hours). The extended version is about 11.5 hours total for the DVD but the Bluray extended version is about 12 hours long.

I have the Bluray boxed set (it is a gold box) and it is the extended length.

Standard version. Extended is like 4x the price!

Unbelievable! My kids had told me that they wanted to watch the new film "The Hobbit" but they had not seen the other previous films. So I took to the Web hoping yo find at least the first movie. Imagine my surprise when I found this deal on Walmart.com. $12.99 for the trilogy, on blue ray! I thought this was an awesome buy and I'm pretty proud of myself for find it. :-)

Excellent purchase

Really, there's no need to pay more. You get the best of the trilogy from this 3 disc set. And what's the best? Well, the 3 movies. Yes, it's great to see the documentaries about how the movie were made, and all that extra stuff they put in the special/extended versions, but if you want to save the space of that big box in your movie shelf and get just the three movies, then this is for you.

The movies are awesome to begin with let alone the discount I got for them.

One thing that's really stellar about the dvd set is there is a ton of really fascinating behind the scenes footage. At get togethers and parties I like to have things like that playing in the background so that any stragglers or anti-social types can wander to the couch and keep entertained.

I happened to learn this trick at a party I had went to where someone was doing the same thing. I was in a crowd of people I didn't know very well so my boyfriend and I wound up watching behind the scenes footage of The Matrix and on our way home that night we honestly felt like we had a good time at the party. Conversing with strangers about the film was a big ice breaker.

When I received this brand new Blu-ray box of movies, I watched all of them in one day. The color and clarity is spectacular and I would recommend anyone of any age to sit back and enjoy this wonderful and heart warming trilogy!

Awesome trilogy at an awesome price!

If you aren't interested in the special features that come with many DVD's, you can't beat the price for this classic trilogy. All 3 of the movies are there in their entirety.

Good Price for the Trilogy

As a fan of the Lord of the Rings series I wanted to own all the movies but I didn't want the 70 dollar collectors edition cases and didn't want to buy them second hand from movie stores. This collection is perfect for me because it is small, each movie is on its own disc, and it's on bluray for under 20 bucks! If you are looking to complete the collection without the clutter of the large collectors editions then this is what you need!

Perfect for the casual fan!

Wasn't looking for any special extended super fluffy ring pop out edition for the parents as a gift and this fit perfectly. Blu-Ray, price was excellent and it does what a movie should, play.

Great if you are looking just for the movies

I will begin this review off with the fact that i got this product for $12.99 +$2.00 shipping. The item took over two weeks to arrive to my house. The item is (3) of the Lord of the Rings movies but they are in a cheap case and no bonus material. I get what i paid for!

The picture shows 3 Discs but I only received 1. Not what I expected?

second one we ordered and had to return. defective again. speaking part of sound track was not put on the dvd. must be a large batch of defective dvds by manufacturer. our other blu-rays discs operate fine on our blu-ray player.
