It rained on me when I was camping and with the rain fly on I didn&#39;t get wet, which is what I would expect. I haven&#39;t tested to see whether it was waterPROOF, but it stands up against a rain storm.

I have had mine set up in the front yard for the last 4 days and it has been blowing and raining for the last 3 days. I just checked it and it has not leaked at all. The inside is dry as can be. It also has remained staked to the ground and has not fallen or come loose at all. I am very surprised how well it has with stood the high winds and hard rains.
I am more impressed now than I was 4 days ago when I put it up in the yard and gave it a not favorable review.
If I had the money I would still buy a higher quality tent but if you are just wanting something to get you by then this will work.

The flooring area is 22.2 square feet and the other information is not available.

The foot side tapers down in size.  My thick twin air mattress did not fit.  However, I was able to get a thin twin air mattress to fit.  The thin one was only $7.95 at Walmart -- very cheap!  It is not very tick, but it is better than sleeping on the ground.

Can you fit a twin air mattress inside of this tent?

Can't be beat for $40. the build quality is very good with two small interior mesh storage pockets, one on the side and one on the top, additionally has a small ring attached to interior ceiling to hang small light from. the rain fly is the heaviest part of this tent, along with the steel stakes. It's very roomy for a one person tent. Light? Yes. Ultralight? Not really, but a great deal for a one person backpacking tent.

Took this tent recently to the A.T. in Georgia. I used a Big Anges Seedhouse 1 footprint and sealed all the outside seams with SilNet. This tent did a great job of keeping everything dry during several inches of rain at night. I had enough room change clothes while laying down, sit up and be comfortable without feeling trapped. I had my boots and pack outside in the vestibule. For the price and with a few upgrades (footprint/seal seams), this tent is hard to beat. Like all other gear. Take care of it and it will take care of you.

Perfect with Upgrades

This tent is a great buy for the money. I used it for backpacking and it is lightweight and packs easily. The tent goes up easily and is sturdy. It didn't rain so I can't comment on that but then again I ALWAYS seal the seams with seam sealer. My only complaint is there isn't really anything to tie back the doors. I had to stuff them into the storage space at the top. Extending the storage area at the top would have been a nice feature also.

Great for Backpacking

Easy setup. Fair quality and works for what I need it for - trip a month with the scouts. Small, lightweight and compact. Needed to make modification to the tent though. Cord holding center of rainfly is too high up on the tent. As is, it allows the lower rainfly to contact the lower partof thent which in turn allows for moisture to enter the tent - dew and rain. Solved this by purchasing tarp clipand cord and attaching to the boeeom of the fly and pullin out by connecting to stake for the existing tiedown.

Works fair enough

I used this tent over the summer on 5 overnight backpacking trips. It is light and extremely easy to set up. The fabric appears durable (so far) and the poles are extremely light. My only problem is that the ground stakes bend very easily - I will be replacing those with some that are more durable. You have to waterproof the tent yourself. I was caught in an overnight torrential downpour while camping and overall the tent did great, although I did have a few water droplets come through the rain-fly and screen wall. I have since waterproofed the rain-fly and I plan to add loops to the bottom of the rain-fly in the middle to pull it away from the tent when it's windy.

For a 1-person tent that is at light as this one, there is a lot of breathing room inside. I could very comfortably sit up and turn around inside the tent.

I am planning to take this tent on a thru-hike of the Appalachian Trail where I will truly test it's durability. With the stakes replaced, added loops at the bottom of the rain-fly, and a waterproofed rain-fly, I'm hoping to sneak by without spending hundreds of dollars on a tent

Light and Cheap

This is an all around good tent. I spent $50 on it in the store (not all carry it). I wasn't expecting a LOT out of it since it was from Walmart and was only $50, but I was pretty impressed with the tent. It is quite light, especially for the price. If you want something lighter with the same square footage you are looking upper $100's to even $300. I've only taken the tent on one adventure up in the High Uintas (in Utah at an elevation of roughly 10,500 feet). It held up really well and exceeded my expectations. Here are some things that I wanted to comment on to add to what others have said:

1. It kept me warm, almost too warm. It was summer where we stayed, but it can get cold at that elevation. It didn't hit freezing, but it got chilly. The tent seems to retain heat with the doors all closed and the rain fly on.

2. It rained and stormed a bit. I stayed dry. The tent did really well against the brief 1-2 hour storm that we had come through. No water made it into the tent at all. The vestibule at the front protected my boots from getting wet.

3. You will need a tarp to go underneath this tent as a footprint. The bottom is too thin to trust against the open elements. I feel it could tear if you didn't lay a tarp down first.

4. I'm 6' 4" tall and felt I had just enough space for my feet and head to not be smashed against the tent. If you are much taller than that you may want to consider a different tent as you will press against the sides.

5. My only REAL complaint about this tent is that there isn't a lot of head room. The tent comes to a point in the middle and gets very thin at the top. There is a small amount of head room near the entrance which is okay, but I wish there was a crossover pole that opened it up more. If it weren't for this I would give the tent 5 stars.

Overall, this tent is pretty awesome for how much you pay for it. I would recommend it to someone who goes camping 1-3 times a year, if that. I think the tent is pretty good quality material, but I could see it wearing out over several years or if you're not careful with it. I hope this helps!

Nice for the Price

First of all, you DO get what you pay for with a backpacking tent from Wal-Mart. That being said, this is a legitimate option for people on a budget. Hopefully the information I'm including is helpful for anyone interested in weight and features.

A couple of things to make note of:
- This is a freestanding tent, but you will need to stake the rainfly if you want to use it (making it double-walled)
- It comes with the stakes and rainfly has attached guylines
- The rainfly is seam-taped, but most of the tent itself is not

Weight breakdown for serious weight-watchers (at least to 1/10th of an ounce):
- Tent: 22 oz.
- Rainfly: 18 oz.
- Hubbed aluminum pole: 12.7 oz.
- Bag for pole: 0.3 oz.
- Aluminum stakes: ~4.6 oz. (0.375 per stake is what I got)
- Stake bag: 0.2 oz.
- Tent bag: 1.1 oz. (and largely unnecessary if you have a backpack)

"Fastfly" weight = Tent (22 oz.) + Pole (12.7) = 34.7 oz.

Pros:
This tent is extremely easy to set up. I have never set a tent up in my life and I was able to figure this out in 15 minutes. It has a hubbed pole (be gentle with it) so you only have 1 pole to deal with. The rainfly will clip to the tent itself which makes it a little more durable in windy conditions. It has (1) loft pocket above the door (great for a light) and (1) mesh pocket on the inside (where the product information is initially stored.) The tent is mesh, and because it is freestanding you could set it up on a nice evening and watch the stars sans rainfly. The tent door is a double door for privacy, and the vestibule provided by the rainfly is spacious. Biggest pro: it is super affordable!

Cons:
The biggest con thus far (and the main reason it did not receive "5" stars) is that the double door on the tent (the zipper specifically) is very heavy so the fabric is starting to tear at the seams above the door. This is easily repaired with a tent repair kit or some duct tape, and not a big deal since I only paid $50 for the tent. However, it is something to watch for as it will allow water to leak into the tent. I suspect it won't last for more than 1 or 2 seasons, but I bought it to experience all of the bad things that could happen, and since some people backpack with a tarp and some paracord, I'm not complaining.

Overall, this is a super great buy if you want a solo tent and some privacy. Don't look here for the lightest weight option, but it is an affordable choice for beginners.

Budget-Friendly Backpacking Tent for Beginners

I was looking to save a few pounds in my pack so I got this lightweight 1 person tent to replace my 7.5 pound 2 person tent for solo backpacking ventures. Between tent and smaller, lighter weight footprint I saved about 4 pounds. Found this online for $29 so I tried it. After reading a review and setting up I sewed in pullouts at the bottom edge below the middle pullout on the rainfly. This made it taught which should help with wind and rain. I also treated it with seam sealer and silicone spray. Face the foot end into the wind and the tent should hold up. I finally used it on a backpacking trip to Hurricane Creek in Arkansas. The weather was too nice so no wind and rain report. The lows were around 20 on the creek and when the morning frost thawed there was water between the fly and tent body, but none inside. For the price, some seam sealer, silicone spray and a craft project it might work. You can spend a couple hundred more and get a better one.

light and cheap

Just set it up in my living room... I'm an avid hiker and do year round survival camping. I use a lot of cheap tents and customize them and they tend to last several seasons. For the money it is a great alternative to high end solo tents, however, the biggest concern is the fly has no tie downs along the ground edges, so the fly lays against the tent wall/floor. This means rain will pool under you and you will get wet and/or wind will flap it around. The vestibule is too small for a loaded back pack to fit under. You will need a foot print for it. Over-all it's decent for the price point, but not something to rely on unless you are in your back yard.
