I called PitBoss and they said yes you  can, use the proper adaptor and get professional to do it. Of course that is optional as far as I am concerned, but the main part is they said yes you can adapt it to a 20LB tank.

You don't need lava rock for this unit. All it takes is a one lb. gas canister.

This grill is awesome, specially for the price!! Easy to put together grills streaks and chicken nice and is truly portable. It's actually $20 less expensive than amazon too. Literally ordered it at 8pm the thing was sitting on my porch the next day!!

Awesome portable affordable

I receive this as a father's day gift. I cooked on Pit Boss Single-Burner Portable Gas Grill 2 times now. Once with aluminum foil to keep the juices in.  Also once WITHOUT aluminum foil it just kept flaring up. Picture is T bone steaks.

Bought several of these for gifts. Everyone loved them!

30 minutes after unboxing and burn in time we had fillets medium rare and ready to eat. And it was 29 degrees out.  Nice even heat. Overall it's a great little grill and very portable.

Nice grill. We love it

I am a first time gas griller. I have always done wood and charcoal. So this is more for convenience. The burgers, pork steaks, and any thing else I can throw on there quick. My first meal on it was thin ribeyes, shrimp kabobs and zucchini kabobs. I have a lot to learn but I was very satisfied with the grill.

First time for everything

manufacturer put a lot of thought and effort into the design of the grill. It's solidly built and very portable. However it does get extremely hot, very fast because of the plate which covers the burner (so that fat and juices vaporize and give u that barbeque flavor without charcoal). You will have to occasionally cut the unit off and it will continue to cook for at least five minutes before the temp. starts to drop back to a level where u can cut the heat back on. Just be careful u don't burn your food.

Being mostly all stainless steel makes this a very sturdy and well made grill. Low is about 450 degrees F. Medium is over 500 and High is about 560. There is no real low setting. Customer service says it is a small grill that gets hot and to cook with the lid open.  I like to grill food hot, so it isn't that big of a deal for me. The regulator is the only cheap thing about it. It is heavy duty weighing over 20 pounds. Easy to clean. The drip tray is a great feature.   It is hard to beat for the price.

The regulator doesn't regulate temperature well. Hooking up a 1 lb propane tank and keeping the regulator at lowest setting will still get the temperature to 400 degrees and higher. You have to cook with the lid open, otherwise, it gets waaaay too hot.

Durable but temp regulation tough

No control over heat--always levels off near 500 degrees F.  I called Smoke Hollow, and they told me to use a small propane bottle instead of the hose adapter I have used on all my other portable grills.  So I bought some small propane bottles--it still sucks.

Pretty much sucks

Don't let looks fool you. There is something defective with some of them. Very disappointed but, all I can say is that I'm glad that my family is alive and my house didn't burn down! Be careful when you use this, and make sure you have an extinguisher near by SERIOUSLY!  Let me say I have grilled many times before with different types of grills even others similar to this model.  So, I know what I'm doing. What happened; I turn it on and off(easily enough). In fact, I did a test run earlier before I used it and everything seemed ok other than it got hot quick.  Later that evening I wanted to grill some patties. So, I got the grill setup and got it at the correct temp. and placed 4 patties on the grill.  Next thing, I noticed was it was getting way to hot and flames were getting high. So I turned it to low. However, the burner flame wasn't lowering at all. I immediately turned the propane tank off but the grill was still on! Flames 5-8” where shooting out the back vents close to the propane tank! The temperature gauge was hitting 800+ the thing just wasn't turning off. Thankfully, I had a fire extinguisher and was able to put it out. May be it this was a fluke thing but it was a bad. It should never have happened and is going back and am calling and writing the company.

Don't let looks fool you. DEFECTIVELY  DANGEROUS!
